Illustrated Fiction: The Perks of Being a Shapeshifter (Freyr / Loki / Freyja)

I'm playing with some tropes associated with Loki from the MCU and its fanfiction in this story. Norse Loki doesn't look different from the Æsir he lives with and he doesn't turn blue in any myth that I know of but I like how this comic and the animation of Destripando La Historia depict him, so I borrowed this detail. Norse Loki actually has a story about him with a goat and in Christianised Europe the goat became equated with the devil, so I thought the horns were a nice touch for this story – not a horned helmet, actual horns. This story is about shape-shifting, after all, and the Norse never wore horned helmets.
Sinita used Arja's design of Freyr and weight lifter as a reference for Freyja. Her hairstyle and jewellery are based on real life Viking Age finds. I wanted Freyr and Freyja to be equally tall and buff, and I think Sinita did an amazing job, making them look like siblings but distinctly masculine and feminine respectively. Freyja's girl cock and muscular limbs take nothing away from her feminine beauty. Loki's design is a nod to Marvel's Loki because of the elements I borrowed from him in the story.
As always, you can download the illustration here, at the bottom of the page.
But there is something new! Soon you will also be able to download the story as an eBook! This was a suggestion in the feedback poll, so I'm curious to find out if this is something that you like. Let me know your opinions here if you haven't shared them already 💖
Glossary
Æsir: the gods who live in Asgard. "Æsir" can be used synonymously with (Norse) "gods" but sometimes a dinstinction is made between Æsir and Vanir as two different groups of gods. A single member of the Æsir is an Áss.
Freyja: Norse goddess of love, fertility, war, and sorcery. It was her who introduced the practice of seiðr (a form of magic) to the Æsir, the gods of Asgard.
Freyr: a Norse god associated with sacral kingship, fertility, peace, prosperity, and virility, with sunshine and fair weather, and with good harvest. According to Adam of Bremen, he was associated with peace and pleasure, and was represented with a phallic statue in the Temple at Uppsala. Both the Poetic Edda and the Prose Edda tell the story of how Freyr made the female jötunn Gerðr his wife, but at the time this story takes place, he's still single.
fuð: Old Norse word for vulva and vagina in the same way that "pussy" doesn't really discriminate between the two.
Jotun, pl. jötnar: often translated as "frost giant", these figures are forces of nature not unlike the gods themselves, and not necessarily huge in size though they can be. The Norse gods frequently have sex with them and sometimes even intermarry. Both of Loki's parents and Thor's mother Jörd are jötnar, for example.
Jotunheim: land where the jötnar live
Loki: Norse god and trickster figure in Norse mythology who frequently gets the gods into and out of trouble. He is not Thor's brother, that is an invention by Marvel. But he is a companion of Thor, dressing up as his bridesmaid when Thor disguised himself as Freyja to steal back Thor's hammer from the jötnar. Like several of the other gods, Loki is a shape-shifter, turning himself into a fly, a salmon, a seal, and a mare. That Loki shape-shifted into an actual woman to pose as Thor's bridesmaid is not stated in the myths, I'm just following the rule of sexy, but it's an extension of his abilities in the myths (i.e. he turned himself into a female horse specifically) and beloved Norse mythology fanon.
Sessrúmnir: literally "space with many or roomy seats", is the name of Freyja's hall that "is large and beautiful".
Vanir: a groups of gods known for fertility, wisdom, and magic who are the namesake of the location Vanaheimr ("Home of the Vanir"). An Æsir–Vanir War is mentioned, after which the Vanir became a subgroup of the Æsir. Freyja and Freyr are both of the Vanir. One singular member of the Vanir is a Vanr.
